2009
The Beginning of GTAPoliceMods
GTAPoliceMods was orginally established in 2009 by daedaelus, creating a dedicated community for Grand Theft Auto police modifications. During it's earliest years, GPM primarly focused on Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and was the major flagship for most of GPM's life. GPM provided a place for developers to share their creations, give their knowledge members, and establish their own reputation within the community.
Vehicle developers like 05Bowtie, Matthias, BxBugs123, 1nickbrick, and GTARotator, with JSDGraphics, alongside script developers like Mordecki and SAESAndy who brought us Emergency Light Mod (ELM) , Lt. Caine who brought us Emergency Lighting System (ELS), and OJDoesIt, bringing San Andreas Police Department : First Response (SAPD:FR). Throught the time, those who started as a developer, like penguin2254 and Bo Modifications, later were brought up as staff within the community while still giving members the best creations.
While GPM has had many staff members, some known, some not as known, everyone has played a part with the history of GPM. These individuals, alongside many others, helped establish GTAPoliceMods as a recognizable name within the Grand Theft Auto police modding community.
Going Forward
The Rise of Police Modding
During the early years of GTAPoliceMods, Grand Theft Auto police modifications continued to advance as developers experimented with new gameplay systems, emergency lighting technology, and vehicle functionality through scripting or 3DS Max creations.
Mordecki and SAESAndy brought Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Emergency Light Mod, the first emergency lighting controls, with later updates allowing users to create their own light patterns with a built in creation system and later allowing multivehicle functionalities.
Lt.Caine brought Grand Theft Auto: IV Emergency Lighting System, which to this date is still one of the most downloaded mods in GTA Modding history and was later created for Grand Theft Auto: V.
OJdoesIt brought Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, San Andreas Police Department First Response (SAPDFR), expanded police gameplay possibilities within GTA San Andreas.
The modification contributed to the development of more interactive law enforcement experiences and represented an important step in the evolution of police gameplay modifications. SAPDFR was the first interation of what we know as LCPDFR / LSPDFR today. Although these modifications were created by their respective developers rather than GTAPoliceMods itself, they formed part of the broader modding environment that helped shape GPM's early identity.
New Communities Arrive
The Communities Inspired by GPM
As GTAPoliceMods continued growing, its influence extended beyond its own website.
Several independent communities emerged through the connections, shared interests, and creativity surrounding the original GPM community.
Among these were:
- GTA Emergency Vehicles
- GTA Emergency Mods
- Strobe-Modding
- GTAModCenter
These websites were independently operated and were not owned by GTAPoliceMods.
Nevertheless, they contributed to the expansion of the Grand Theft Auto police modding scene by providing additional platforms for developers to share their creations and interact with other enthusiasts.
Multiplayer
Beyond Modding: The SA-MP Era
During its original years, the community also participated in the growing San Andreas Multiplayer (SA-MP) roleplaying scene.
Fort Carson Roleplay
GTAPoliceMods originally owned and operated Fort Carson Roleplay, an SA-MP server centered around, you guessed it, Fort Carson, Blaine County.
The server provided an environment where players could participate in law enforcement, civilian activities, and other roleplaying experiences such as police, fire / ems, getting a drivers license, host server events like fireworks, plane crashes and more.
Fort Carson Roleplay became an important part of GPM's early multiplayer history.
The Transition to LCPDFR
In late 2011, Fort Carson Roleplay transitioned from GTAPoliceMods to LCPDFR.
The server was subsequently relaunched through the efforts of Sam, Cyan, and G17 Media.
Several former GTAPoliceMods staff members remained involved, helping maintain continuity between the original server and its new home. One being Mike Alberta.
The transition represented a connection between two communities involved in Grand Theft Auto police modding and roleplaying.
Angel Pine Roleplay
Following the Fort Carson Roleplay transition, GTAPoliceMods sponsored Angel Pine Roleplay, another SA-MP roleplaying community.
Unlike Fort Carson Roleplay, Angel Pine Roleplay was independently operated rather than owned by GTAPoliceMods and brought forth hundreds of new players, scenarios, and events.
The sponsorship demonstrated GPM's support for the broader roleplaying community and its willingness to help independent projects grow.
The Influence of Evolve RolePlayer
During this period, the wider SA-MP community was also influenced by Evolve RolePlayer (ERP), a roleplaying server known for its detailed and extensive scripting systems.
Following the unauthorized release of its scripts, ERP-based systems spread throughout the SA-MP community, with numerous servers adopting or adapting elements of the code.
Although ERP was not a GTAPoliceMods-owned project, its influence was part of the broader roleplaying environment in which GPM and its members participated and being a home of ERP scripts when having it's own server. ERP scripts to this day, are still highly used in the SA-MP community, while it is a dying community, still widely popular with role-play servers. ERP set the foundation for what you can do, create, and release within the SA-MP community.
2016
High-Speed Gaming and the End of the Original Era
As Grand Theft Auto V and multiplayer modification platforms became increasingly popular, the original GTAPoliceMods community began moving in a new direction.
Following daedaelus' original leadership, ownership and management of GTAPoliceMods eventually passed to BxBugs123.
In 2016, High-Speed Gaming was established under BxBugs123, marking a transition away from the original GTAPoliceMods identity.
High-Speed Gaming placed greater emphasis on GTA V multiplayer experiences, particularly FiveM, reflecting the changing interests of the Grand Theft Auto community.
This transition brought the original era of GTAPoliceMods, which had begun in 2009, to a close.
Although the website no longer operated under its historic identity, its influence continued through the developers, modifications, and communities that had grown around it.
For several years, the GTAPoliceMods name remained inactive.
However, its story was far from over.
2019
GTAPoliceMods Returns
After a period of inactivity, GTAPoliceMods received a second opportunity.
In mid-2019, Ray acquired the GTAPoliceMods.com domain and revived the historic community.
The revival brought the GPM name back into the Grand Theft Auto modding scene under new leadership, establishing the foundation for a new generation of projects.
2020
FivePD Becomes a GTAPoliceMods Project
In January 2020, FivePD became a project of GTAPoliceMods, establishing an important connection between the revived website and multiplayer police simulation.
Developed for FiveM, FivePD introduced cooperative law enforcement gameplay to Grand Theft Auto V, allowing players to experience police patrols together in a multiplayer environment.
The modification offered gameplay opportunities such as responding to emergency calls, conducting traffic stops, pursuing suspects, and participating in other police-related activities.
FivePD also created opportunities for developers to expand the experience through custom plugins, callouts, and additional functionality.
The project became an important part of the modern GTAPoliceMods identity and represented a new direction for the community.
Mid 2020
Another Closure
Despite the revival, operating GTAPoliceMods presented financial challenges.
In mid-2020, Ray closed the website due to the costs associated with maintaining the platform.
The shutdown marked the end of the 2019 revival.
However, FivePD continued beyond the closure of GTAPoliceMods.
2024
A Return to the Original GPM Experience
In 2024, Ray once again relaunched GTAPoliceMods.com, bringing the historic community back online.
Unlike the earlier revival, which had become closely associated with FivePD, the 2024 relaunch focused on restoring the traditional GTAPoliceMods website and forum experience.
The platform provided a familiar environment where Grand Theft Auto enthusiasts could discuss modifications, share content, and connect with other community members.
The revival reflected an effort to return GPM to its roots as a community-centered modification website.
For longtime members, it represented another opportunity to reconnect with a familiar name from the Grand Theft Auto modding scene.
Early 2025
The Website Closes Again
Unfortunately, the financial challenges associated with maintaining GTAPoliceMods continued.
In early 2025, the website closed once again due to operating expenses.
The closure marked the end of the 2024 revival and left the future of the community uncertain.
However, the GTAPoliceMods name would return once more.
2026
GTAPoliceMods : A New Beginning
In late 2026, Ray and Cam joined forces to relaunch GTAPoliceMods.
The relaunch introduced a redesigned website and forum, offering a modernized experience while preserving the community-driven identity that had defined GTAPoliceMods since 2009.
Unlike previous revivals, GPM was built around a broader vision for the future of Grand Theft Auto modding.
The goal was not simply to restore a historic website, but to establish a collaborative environment where developers, creators, and enthusiasts could come together to build something lasting.
Our Mission Moving Forward
As GTAPoliceMods enters its newest chapter, the mission remains focused on four core principles:
Preserve Our History
Recognize the individuals, modifications, and communities that helped establish GTAPoliceMods and shaped the Grand Theft Auto modding scene. From the original leadership of daedaelus to the contributions of early staff members, developers, and community projects, GTAPoliceMods grew because individuals were willing to share their work and help others.
Support Our Developers
Create an environment where developers can collaborate, share knowledge, receive assistance, and grow their skills.
Expand FivePD
Encourage continued development and new opportunities for multiplayer law enforcement simulation.
Build Our Community
Welcome new members, reconnect longtime enthusiasts, and provide a place where individuals with shared interests can come together.
The Legacy Continues
From a small community dedicated to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas police modifications in 2009 to the introduction of GTAPoliceModsin 2026, the website has experienced more than seventeen years of change.
Throughout its history, GTAPoliceMods has witnessed the evolution of Grand Theft Auto modding, the emergence of influential modifications, the growth of multiplayer roleplaying, and the development of new technologies.
The journey has included challenges, closures, changes in leadership, and periods of uncertainty.
Yet the GTAPoliceMods name has continued to return and once again holds a positive outlook within the Grand Theft Auto series modding community.
