Takedown
For rights holders: have your work removed when it was posted here without your permission.

Before you send
It's for copyright, and only that
A mod that breaks the guidelines, carries malware or is simply bad is reported with the Report button on its page.
It's a legal statement
You sign it under penalty of perjury. Send it only for work that is yours, or that you're authorized to act for.
Asking first is often faster
Many uploaders credit you or take the mod down themselves when asked. Their profile says how to reach them.
The notice
Email it to dmca@404mods.com. That inbox is read by admins only, and we answer from it. The notice needs:
- your name, and your postal address or phone number;
- who owns the rights, if that's someone you act for;
- the work you hold the rights to;
- the address of each page on this site where it is;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized by the owner, its agent or the law;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and that you own the rights or are authorized to act for the owner;
- your signature, which can be your typed name.
We write back if anything is missing. Nothing comes down until it's complete.
What happens to a notice
Every notice is read by an admin, not a moderator and not a machine. Sending one hides nothing by itself.
- If the notice is complete and the work is where it says, the work is hidden at once and its files are removed.
- The person who posted it is told what was claimed, and we may pass them the notice, your name included, so that they can answer it.
- If something is missing we write to the address on the notice and ask for it. Nothing comes down until it's complete.
- The notice and what was done about it are kept for 7 years.
Knowingly claiming a work that isn't yours, or isn't infringed, can make you liable for the damage it does, under section 512(f) of the US Copyright Act.
If your work was taken down
A takedown isn't a moderation decision, so it isn't appealed. If your upload was removed by mistake, or the claimant misidentified it, the answer is a counter-notice, sent to dmca@404mods.com with the reference from your removal notice. It needs:
- what was removed, and the address it was at;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification;
- your name, postal address and phone number;
- a statement that you accept the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, outside the United States, of any district where we can be found), and that you'll accept service of process from the person who sent the notice;
- your signature, which can be your typed name.
We pass a complete counter-notice to the claimant. The work goes back up between 10 and 14 business days later, unless the claimant tells us in that time that they've gone to court to keep it down.
Repeat infringers
An account with three upheld takedowns in a year can have all of its uploads removed for good. That's an admin's decision, made on the record of the three. A takedown that was answered by a counter-notice and restored doesn't count.
