What you see tells you where to look. A white or gray car has its model but not its textures. An invisible car, or one that won't spawn, is missing its model or was never loaded.

The vehicle is white or untextured

The game found the model, the .yft, but not the texture dictionary that goes with it, the .ytd.

  1. Check the .ytd is there. It sits beside the model and has the same name: police.yft needs police.ytd. If the download had one and your install doesn't, copy it in.
  2. Check the names match. If you renamed the model to fit another slot, rename the .ytd the same way. A model named police2.yft does not read police.ytd.
  3. Check the texture names inside. Open the .ytd in OpenIV. Livery textures must keep the names the model expects, such as police_sign_1. See Installing a texture or livery.
  4. Check for a shared texture file. Some packs keep common textures, such as light bars, in one shared .ytd that every car in the pack reads. If you installed one car from a pack and left the shared file out, parts stay white.
  5. Check you edited the right copy. For a replace vehicle, the game loads the copy in the highest patchday pack. A .ytd placed in an older one is ignored.

Only some parts are missing

  • Lights or equipment are untextured. A shared .ytd is missing, as above.
  • The car loses detail up close. The _hi.yft file is missing. Each vehicle has two models, name.yft and name_hi.yft, and needs both.
  • Wheels or extras are missing. The pack's data files were not installed. A replace vehicle that needs its own vehicles.meta or carvariations.meta entry will show parts wrongly without it.

The vehicle is invisible or won't spawn

  1. Check the model name. Spawn it by the exact name in the readme.
  2. For an add-on, check dlclist.xml. The pack's line must be in the copy inside mods, spelled like the folder. See dlclist.xml and dlcpacks.
  3. Check the mods folder is loading at all. If no mod works, see My mods folder stopped working.
  4. Check the game's limits. With many add-ons, a vehicle can fail to load, or flicker in and out. Install a gameconfig.xml made for your game version.

Textures go blurry or the world stops loading

The game has run out of memory for textures. Vehicle packs with very large textures cause it, more so with several on screen. Remove some, or look for a version of the pack with smaller textures.

On a FiveM server

  1. Check the resource started. Look in the server console for its name, and for errors beside it.
  2. Check the files are in stream. The .yft, _hi.yft and .ytd all belong in the resource's stream folder.
  3. Check the size. The server console warns about oversized assets when the resource starts. A .ytd that is too large may not load on players' games. Ask the author for a smaller version, or resize the textures.
  4. Rejoin. After a resource changes, players keep the old files until they reconnect.
  5. Check the data files. A vehicle resource lists its vehicles.meta and other data files in fxmanifest.lua. If they are missing from the manifest, the car spawns wrong or not at all.

If one player sees the car and another doesn't, the fault is on that player's side. Ask them to clear their FiveM cache and rejoin.
