A script does nothing

Work out why a script mod or plugin isn't loading in GTA V, using the right loader and the log files.

A script that loads with no result is nearly always in the wrong folder or missing its loader. Find out which kind of script you have, then read the log that loader writes.

Which kind of script it is

Files Kind Needs Goes in
.asi ASI script ScriptHookV and an ASI loader (dinput8.dll) The game folder, next to GTA5.exe
.dll or .cs meant for scripts .NET script The above, plus ScriptHookVDotNet scripts\
.dll meant for plugins RAGE Plugin Hook plugin RAGE Plugin Hook plugins\
.dll meant for plugins\LSPDFR LSPDFR plugin LSPDFR plugins\LSPDFR\

A .dll in the wrong one of these folders is ignored without any message. The readme says which kind it is.

ASI scripts

  1. Check ScriptHookV.dll and dinput8.dll are both in the game folder.
  2. Check the .asi is in the game folder itself, not in scripts or mods.
  3. Open asiloader.log in the game folder. It lists each .asi the loader found and whether it loaded.
  4. Open ScriptHookV.log. It shows the game version ScriptHookV saw and each script it started.

If neither log exists, or both are old, the ASI loader isn't running. dinput8.dll is missing, or BattlEye is on.

.NET scripts

These need ScriptHookVDotNet on top of ScriptHookV.

  1. Copy ScriptHookVDotNet.asi and the ScriptHookVDotNet2.dll and ScriptHookVDotNet3.dll files from its download into the game folder.
  2. Create a scripts folder in the game folder if there isn't one, and put the script there.
  3. Install the .NET Framework and Visual C++ runtimes that the ScriptHookVDotNet readme lists.
  4. Start the game, then open ScriptHookVDotNet.log in the game folder.

The log names each script it loaded. A script that failed has an error beside its name. Common ones are a missing dependency, such as a menu library the script needs in scripts, and a script written for a newer ScriptHookVDotNet than you have.

LSPDFR and RAGE Plugin Hook plugins

  1. Start the game with RAGEPluginHook.exe. Plugins don't load from the normal launcher.
  2. Go on duty. LSPDFR plugins load at that point.
  3. Open RagePluginHook.log in the game folder and search for the plugin's name.

The log shows the plugin loading, or the error that stopped it. A missing file error means a dependency isn't installed. See Installing an LSPDFR plugin or callout pack.

It loaded but nothing happens

  • The key is taken. Another mod uses the same key. Change it in the script's .ini.
  • The .ini is missing. Some scripts do nothing without their settings file beside them.
  • It needs a condition. Some scripts only work in a vehicle, on duty, or after you open a menu. Read the readme again.
  • Windows blocked the file. Right-click the .dll, open Properties and tick Unblock.

Everything stopped at once

If every script stopped on the same day, the game updated. See The game crashes after a Rockstar update.

Asking for help

When you ask the mod's author, attach the log for the script's kind. It answers most of what they would ask you.
