An upload can be refused at two points: when the file arrives, and when a reviewer looks at the version. Either way you're told why, and almost every reason has a fix you can make yourself.

Refused when the file arrives

These are checked by the site, and the Files step tells you straight away.

What you see What to do
"Use a .zip, .oiv, .rar or .7z; a single file still has to be zipped" Put the mod in one of those four archive types.
"Files can be up to 2 GB" Make the archive smaller, or split optional parts into extras. Verified creators can upload up to 10 GB.
"A version has one main file and up to 9 extras" Remove a file before adding another.
"Up to 20 files and 20 GB a day" Wait. The cap covers the last 24 hours.
"Password-protected archives can't be checked. Upload it again without a password." Repack it with no password.
"This file matches one removed from GTAPoliceMods and can't be uploaded." The exact file was removed before. If you think that's a mistake, contact support.
"Malware was found in this file. If you think that's wrong, contact support." Don't upload it again. Check where each part of the mod came from.

A refused file has to be removed from the version before you can submit.

Sent back by a reviewer

A reviewer picks a reason, and can add a note of their own under it. These are the reasons used for versions.

  1. The archive doesn't open, or is empty. Open it on your own machine before you upload it.
  2. Files the mod needs are missing. Add them, or list what else people have to install.
  3. Not what the page says it is. What's in the upload doesn't match the title, description or screenshots. Change the page or the files so they agree.
  4. Wrong category. The mod is in a section or subcategory it doesn't belong to.
  5. Missing credits. It uses other people's work without crediting them. See Credits and permissions.
  6. Someone else's work, without permission. If you have permission, say so in the description.

Fixing it and sending it again

  1. Open the mod from your dashboard. The version shows as "Sent back" with the reason.
  2. Fix what the reason names. You can change the version's files, label and changelog, and the mod's details and screenshots.
  3. Submit again. It goes back to review.

If the mod's first version was sent back, the mod is a draft again until you resubmit.

When a live mod is removed

A live mod can be removed for being stolen or reuploaded without permission, for containing a harmful file, for being broken or not what its page describes, or for breaking the community guidelines. You get the reason, and a removal can come with a warning.

If you think the decision was wrong

You can appeal a rejected version or a removed mod once, within 30 days, from Appeals. Someone other than the moderator who made the decision reads it, and you're told why. See Warnings, points, bans and how to appeal.
